I just spend like 5 hours fiddling with the DNS of my new domain.
- a small rant -
For anyone else having the brilliant idea of renaming your main branch to mistress 😏, consider that the Domain provider, in my case cloudflare, might not automatically switch to your new default branch.
So you would have intuitively find your way to this very accessible setting, which is not in your website settings (like everything else) but:
from your account
to Pages
click View details
open the Build Settings
click on Settings
under Production Branch, click Configure Production deployments
open dropdown labeled Production branch
Which most likely won't show your new branch until you spam it a few times for some reason.
That wasn't obvious? Oh well... You may now close your 50 docs and developer and stackoverflow tabs and redeploy your site.
On a site note, it's really cool that cloudflare sells domain without making profits so they're ass-cheap - and that gitlab & github let you host for free. But damn now I know what you pay these simple-all-in-one providers for.
