I had a discussion with a friend about feminism yesterday and I spent like 30 minutes trying to articulate my position but I made no sense. Anyway the reason that you must approach the feminist struggle from a materialist aim is because the oppression is material, and for material benefits. Men do not oppress women for shits and giggles, they do it because there is material gain (i.e. capital) in doing so. All misogyny and patriarchy is backwards justification for the systems that exist only for material oppression. To fight against misogynist ideology is to misunderstand the nature of misogyny. It is a smokescreen against the material conditions that gave rise to it and so long as those material conditions exist and the incentives for misogyny exist misogyny will exist. Liberation is not found within the ideological basis of the oppressors, it is with the total destruction of their material structures.
