One of the great charms of Seoul was in the slap-dash, good enough, way the city was built up during the last half of the 20th century. This is an underpass in the north east of the city. IIRC it does connect to a subway station after a bit of a stroll. Super convenient on a hot summer's day.

Since I can't pass up a chance to slag my people: None of what you see there would be allowed back home because the powers that be would be afraid of some asshole smashing the emergency phone, or smashing the lights, or pulling down the pipes and wires. The thing is some asshole would come along and pull down the wires and smash the lights and prove them right. That's why my hometown is boring to look at.

Seoul, and Korea in general, has spent most of the 21st century so far putting in a lot of effort to doll up the place. Knocking down a lot of that slap-dash and replacing it with sleek modern buildings. One day all of these visually interesting wires and pipes will be behind plain panels. Probably with some frames for placing advertising. And while a lot of those old buildings should be knocked down due to being largely unfit for human habitation (Source: I've lived in them) you can't say they weren't interesting to look at.

I've said this before and I'll say this again: Samsung's brief foray into cameras produced some really good gear. Yet they saw the writing on the wall as well as everyone else. Cameras are dead except to a collective of weirdos. People prefer phones.
