Last week's comics haul and short review post! Cuz if I'm spending money on something I shouldn't, I best get some blog fodder out of it!

Also it's Goblin Mode Day so what else am I gonna do?

Delicious in Dungeon

This was the only copy at the bookstore so I immediately grabbed it.

For anyone who has been living under a rock in this Year of the Weeb Elves: Delicious in Dungeon's hook is that the adventurers are eating the monsters they kill as they descend deeper into the dungeon to rescue their friend. It's also about found family, love, and learning to not only accept others, but also accepting yourself.

A lot has been said of Laios' obvious neurodivergence, given how it's played up in the anime, but all of the characters have some sort of spicy brain that you'll see some of yourself in them. Also it delivers some very funny comedy and great action alongside some very clever world building.

If you can't read, and I don't know how you got this far if you can't, the anime is as faithful an adaptation as I've ever seen so watch that if comic books hurt your delicate little baby fingers. It's really good genre work.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou AKA Yokohama Shopping Trip

I'd like you to imagine the apocalypse and the end of humanity. Now erase the fire and screaming and replace that with a world that is dozing off while trying its best to remember humanity as they become fewer in number every day. Now have a robot playing witness to this fading and trying to make as many memories as she can with them while she can.

This is probably the most under-praised manga of the past thirty years after Yotsuba&! IMO. It's possibly the best comic I've read that captures the feelings of seeing an ending coming and the moving on you know that you must do in its wake.

You know the term "It's a vibe"? This is the epitome of that.

I might grab some other recent comic hauls and give them reviews too. Depends on my vibes in our current apocalypse.

Space Battleship Yamato is probably one of the most influential comics/ anime ever made. I can sing the (English language) theme song from memory if I have enough in me. To say the art can be rough is understating it, but damn, what a trip.

Yotsuba&! is one of the best comics ever made. I place up on that mountain alongside Love & Rockets as a book that... were you to tell me you thought it's bad... you would make me stand up, point an accusing finger at you, and yell, "YOU HAVE SHIT TASTE!"

I would do this because you have shown me that you have shit taste.
