I'm so worried that Ring Racers is gonna be gatekeepy bc I'm already seeing people be like "Well I'm a Kart master and I want something that's actually challenging. Don't like it? Don't play it!"

Idk it just makes me feel belittled for not thinking the game's mechanics aren't well thought out

One of the devs said that ppl critiquing the tutorial can "cry about it" Oh this does not bode well

Even if you're trying to make something that's intentionally more difficult and in-depth (and I don't even know if that's what they're going for since I've never heard of it before), this is absolutely not the response to people bouncing off the introduction. The absolute baseline of the experience shouldn't be too high for people to get in. You provide an on-ramp with enough explanation for people to interact with your game at a basic level.

Then, if you dislike hand-holding, you leave everything beyond that to the player to pick up. But there's absolutely no excuse for not even giving people a successful introduction to the basic concepts of your game. And, well, if you don't understand the mechanics of your game well enough to explain them, they may not be as well thought-out as you think they are.
