you could probably do an off-brand kingdom hearts with public domain novels as the worlds... but what public domain novels would make good kingdom hearts worlds? (other than ones already in it)

A few of Jules Verne's could work, but Journey to the Center of the Earth is the best fit. A cast of wacky adventurers go to a fantastical underground world full of dinosaurs. It's basically already a videogame plot.
You could also go with mythological/historical texts, but that's probably too predictable, and might veer into Fate territory.
last 200 years or so are the ideal kind of thing, rather than myths. the same pool of stories disney drew from. journey to the centre of the earth is exactly the kind of thing I'm thinking of
I mean if you're willing to put in the work to Disnefy it, anything! Leave off Cinderella's stepsisters carving their feet to fit the glass slipper, just straight up completely rewrite The Snow Queen into Frozen lmao
The Oz books would fit pretty great
edit: for a funny bit, do The Three Musketeers and Les Miserables in the same game (Dumas value!)
they would! the Oz series went to some weird, fun places in the later books.
Mini-level of The Metamorphosis where you're just stuck as bugs and have to help Gregor through a day
Seconding Oz.
Sherlock Holmes could be fun.
Conan?
Next year, you'll even be able to use Mickey Mouse as he appears in Steamboat Willie
ironically steamboat willie was in KH already so.. we know what that looks like
pride and prejudice would cover the disney princesses vibes, frankenstien would cover the obligatory goth sora, midsummer night's dream or another comedy would probably give you lots of material to work with...
