Me reading the paragraph: "Background removal? Sure, sounds like a good use of true AI, not lik—oh for fuck's sake, bad microsoft, no twinkie!"

I was saying this last time paint updated with layers- microsoft finally added a decent feature but did it in the worst way imaginable. now everything in paint is automatically centered as well, and it doesn't seem to be able to understand alpha as a channel but instead as one flat fully-transparent colour

in doing this it's also removed certain other useful features it used to have like using the background colour as a mask and using the eraser as a colour remover. god. when they have a good idea they make sure they implement it so badly you beg for the old one back

EDIT: also love the way it suggests tweaking the results of the AI output in paint. yeah, MSPaint, the famously good photo editor

in reply to @atomicthumbs's post:

it's a perfect example of a feature that's for the executives, not for the customers

it costs MS very little since it's just feeding input to a cloud service they already have for some other reason, and they can cram it full of microtransactions (usage is limited by "credits", which people will no doubt be able to buy)
