The aliens are invading Earth! All defense ships are destroyed. Only the Prototype-G Gazelle is left. You are our only hope. Your objective: Attack the enemy fleet. Enter the flesh mothership "Beelzebub". Destroy the brain overlord. So, if you've known me for any real length of time you know I post a lot of animu girls inspired by warplanes, and make veiled threats or promises about it being for some kind of game project. Well, I'm just gonna throw what I have thus far out there to gauge interest a little since it seems like cohost in particular has a lot of people into tiny weird games.

I still haven't finalized the title but I'm kind of considering changing it from Critical Heaven because that was both kind of just two words that sounded cool stuck together and also originally referred to a play mechanic where characters got an offense boost at low health. I kind of like the ring of Crossing Heaven because well, now you're crossing a grid.

The basic gameplay is extremely simple- players set character cards on the grid and they advance forward toward the opponent's side each turn. Different classes of fighter have different movement rules and when two units move into the same square, a clash occurs based on a rock-paper-scissors system. If it's a tie, both units return to the player's hand, if there's an advantaged match up the loser goes to the 'graveyard' and the winner continues forward. Your goal is to either deplete your opponent's fighter reserve, hit their base enough times to destroy it, or have the most 'resources' left at the end of a turn limit. Units will also have a special ability that can be triggered by spending energy points that are gained from downing enemy fighters or scoring hits on the opponent.

My goal with this project has been to come up with a really easy to pick up and play game based on team building and strategic manuevers. The original plan was for a more traditional tabletop wargame format, but after checking out some other card and board games I got to thinking of ways to keep things nice and simple but still have room for interesting team builds. So... hopefully testing goes well. I've been doing the basics with some note cards on my coffee table but playing rock paper scissors with yourself is kind of hard, lol.
