my introduction to the word "aloof" was when i was ~7 years old and my dad came back from a job interview at a local insurance company. they had him take a personality quiz which included a question about whether he was "aloof". i am pretty sure he spent most of dinner that evening explaining what "aloof" meant to my mom and i, and why it was absurd that it would be on the personality quiz, because who would answer yes to that in the context of trying to get a job? only someone who did not know what "aloof" meant, that's who
