TIL that despite the significantly higher capacity of Blu-ray Discs, the PlayStation 3 shipped with a Blu-ray drive whose transfer rate was only 8.58 MB/s (2× Blu-ray1) to the Xbox 360's 16.5 MB/s (12× DVD2), even being slightly more fair and comparing their DVD read speeds, the PS3 still only manages 10.3 MB/s (10× DVD)!

No wonder it forced such sluggish hard drive installs.

Explains probably why it's a very slow seeking blu-ray player lol.

To be fair at the time I imagine 2x was the best they could achieve at a reasonable cost for blu-ray readers?

I feel like later editions, especially the Super Slim, had to have faster drives, right? Right?!
