a friend of mine presented me with a zune that had a dead battery. i simply cannot tolerate when an obsolete piece of technology isn’t working properly. so i did a quick battery replacement (and upgrade!) and now she’s working in tiptop shape.
zunes (and a lot of toshiba products) are hellishly designed such that they’re hostile to those trying to fix them. the solder job was easy, it’s just dealing with all the tiny fragile parts that’s the issue.
not pictured: i snapped off the internal mechanism that controls the lock switch while putting this thing back together. so i had to fashion a new part out of sugru. this thing is tiny, like 2mm^3. hoping it holds long term, but yikes
