"If it were me, I'd have [changed] her design to make [her species] more visually clear" - some internet rando

I post embeds of other peoples' things at @ticky-reposts

I feel like I've mostly used Bluetooth on Apple devices, where the implementation seems to be at its best; the range is extremely good and interruptions are few and far between, even on third-party headphones and devices.

My PS Vita, however, seems to be giving me an insight into how the people who hate Bluetooth have been living; it's admittedly older by the better part of a decade, but boy, the range is so poor it drops the stream if my arm so much as occludes line of sight, and don't even think about getting more than a couple of metres away.

Meanwhile the same headphones can get signal from my MacBook from all the way across the apartment, through multiple walls, and whichever way I happen to be facing.

yeah, I haven't actually done research into it but my suspicion is that it's less about the PHY/link layer and more about better compression and error correction making the newer/more proprietary audio profiles higher quality and more resilient to stutters in reception

as a result you end up with a worst of both worlds situation where small host device manufacturers don't have the best profiles, get no specific support attention from audio device manufacturers, and because all of this is transparent to the protocol it's impossible to get any idea of the audio quality you're going to get from a particular device pair unless it's popular enough that people are likely to be writing reviews using both devices involved as their review hardware

as someone who has pretty much never used apple devices, it's still pretty bad over here lmao

best experience i've had is with my Galaxy S8 + Galaxy Buds Pro, but even then with that specific vendor-locked experience, i still get goofy issues with audio buffering, device hand-overs, failures to connect at all, etc

On windows and linux my Bluetooth headphones/headset/speakers almost never have an issue. Mouse/keyboard on the other hand... I can only get the ones that come with their own USB dongle to work correctly.

It's basically night and day for the bluetooth connections between my galaxy s8 and my ipad air and even then I wouldn't say my s8's connection isn't awful. It is hilarious to me that I have to intentionally keep my phone closer to my right wireless earbud when I take walks or I constantly have connection issues though.
