so my original plan for this eye tracking setup was to tear down one of the USB hubs I bought for this and shove it in the frunk, but
- I discovered that I don't actually need SuperSpeed USB 3.0 for anything I'm going to be doing here1, and
- it turns out I have a spare USB 2.0 internal hub board left over from a previous project, which ought to fit nicely in the frunk, and save a bit of room due to not using real USB Type-A at all
so the main blocker now is just getting long enough USB 2.0 Type-A to C cables that I can adapt to the Dupont type connectors the hub uses
also a thing I learned that I was kind of surprised by is that the Index doesn't use the USB voltage at all; everything in the headset, USB port included, is powered by the 12V jack, so there's a bunch of voltage regulating hardware on your face, which feels a little suboptimal lmao

I was keeping my options open for potentially adding a Vive face tracker in the future, but it turns out that despite using USB Type-C, even it apparently only uses USB 2.0, and if I'm already considering wiring my own USB cables this should be easy enough to adapt as well
