my friend bought this book for me as a christmas present last year; i found myself a bit intimidated by the size and the density, and so i didn't end up getting past the introduction for some time. i'd like to finish this book before the end of august, so i'll try my best.

i'm only a very short ways into this book so far but, as is to probably be expected for a person like me, i'm already very charmed by the layers of nested narratives going on in here. i don't know very much about house of leaves—i've been deliberately avoiding any information about it for the past few years so as to not spoil anything, since i knew i'd want to read it some day—but so far it's shaping up to be a really interesting investigation of the idea of "authenticity" in storytelling, and of "truth" in general. and i mean any story about storytelling or about art is gonna have some level of weird layering to it by virtue of being fiction about fiction, but i'm loving how hard HoL is leaning into it already
