I have no idea if there's any rehabilitating the common reputation of this series outside of Japan, given that it's saddled with four decades of incurious disregard from mostly-American, mostly Nintendo-poisoned folk with no concept of context, but making the authentic, original version of the first game available globally is one way to start, and dropping it right after Xanadu won't hurt, either—sure, it's a comparatively basic game, but I can see it faring better with newer players than most of its contemporaries for the simple fact that you don't need a walkthrough or a cheat sheet or a meticulous mind-map in order to make progress.
This is another game that boasts big sales records in Japan, but the publisher may have fudged the numbers a little: their million sales on computer includes the overseas MSX release, which "sold" most of its copies as a hardware pack-in in certain countries, and the million Famicom sales include the lesser but not-insignificant sales of the NES version. Either way, two million for any game, let alone this game, ain't nothin' to sniff at.
Oh nice i didnt see this. I will get it in the hopes that maybe one day i get a port of virtual (I know egg has nothing to do with that but i copium)
The creator of the Hydlide series has said a lot of odd things in recent years but the one comment that sticks with me is from the time he played some Ratchet & Clank game and was like "this is what I was going for with Virtual Hydlide"
what does that mean
