got credits on shiren 6. feels great so far (took about 8-10 hours?), pretty impressed with it overall compared to 5 (which i like a ton but still haven't even beaten...it's a lot tougher than this). feel like a lot of stuff has been rebalanced and reconsidered for the main campaign so it feels a bit more stable and evenly paced, even with more unidentified pots and stuff in play. more "normal" almost? 5's gimmicks get turned up pretty high really fast. this run i felt really strong even without party members. with them the boss was free

tried to go into the inference dungeon, but man, the difficulty really leaps up quickly there...i can't say i've quite figured out what the goal is in terms of being able to scrape by the first big difficulty jump. i'll probably check out the sumo dungeon next, no clue what kind of equipment it expects you to bring. but i've been getting into sumo over the past couple years...haha. (incidentally the sumo mechanic is one of the coolest in the game i think, partly bc it gives a strong incentive not to hoard food. which already feels like it's something that feels important more than it's actually good. i dunno)

rescue system is funny, i've tried it some (on myself and others). that's something i didn't touch in 5 bc i bought the vita version a while before the newer ports came out. the fact that you usually (?) have to reach them inside a monster room is so funny. really adds some spice to ones on low floor counts you might hope and imagine are easy.

emily: "so what are the shiren stories like, anyway? is he like adol?"

me, near the end of this game's story mere weeks after finishing ys 1 and 2 at the start of the year: "oh yeah. he's like adol. that's exactly what it's like"
