i don't tend to think of my workplace as particularly having dangerous intra-office politics but i realized pretty quickly after moving to working under my current boss that she is seeking to lead the department in 10-15 years and that it might be a viable career path to just keep working with her till i'm there as she seizes the mandate of heaven or whatever
like i'm not aware of any particular reason to expect some kind of epic conflict in the lead up to dr. wang's eventual retirement or whatever, just like i kind of came to expect i'd float aimlessly and now that i'm on this cart the expected value of staying on it is looking kind of good
