i think i decided on my goal for dota 2. i want to finish the all hero challenge one time. raising mmr is a lame goal and one that just makes you mad at everything. the all hero challenge is an incentive to sincerely try and learn a bit about everything while utilizing your fundamentals in the game. you get assigned heroes in order. when you finish one the game tells you your next one. i'm probably going to write a bit about each one (or most of them) since it'll be a fun way to talk about the game and the heroes. gonna make each post a reply to this one and also tag it with "d2ahc" and "[hero name] (dota)" in case anyone wants to find these later for some reason. technically i started this years ago and forgot about a couple of the early ones...
i'll probably also try and get in some games with my favs from time to time in the middle still. especially bc i've still gotta figure out how you can win with morphling. i think he's the #1 hardest hero in the game to play...
i've always liked playing everything, in fighting games too. being so close to competitive scenes kinda beats that out of you unless you really play only one game and are really smart, which does not describe how i feel about myself in fighting games. but maybe this'll teach me something about that. i'd like if it did. but the first one i got...is "wisp"
she's an elf. she's bluish gray. (if you've seen my characters in ff14, elden ring, dragon's dogma, etc....it's kind of my aesthetic. but i rarely play her.) she shoots the bow good. probably the first hero i ever saw anyone play since my older brother was the first one to try out "this new thing that's getting popular" and he's always liked relatively simple heroes like that. she freezes people on each hit (if you want to. it costs a little mana), casts "gust" (brief knockback line aoe that silences people for a long time and, as of the current patch, reveals invisible heroes), and has the repeating fan shot like whoever that is in league of legends. that's a more recent addition, but i don't remember what it replaced anymore. her ult is a passive that gives her a bunch of damage. this used to be raw agility a long time ago, now it's a more complicated thing that gives a chance of reducing the armor calculation on each attack. since armor is very strong against pure attackers like this, it's really good! her agh's gives extra damage on frost arrows, and a splash effect if something you shot with them dies, and by the time you would buy it you will be using them all the time forever so it's basically just those effects automatically. her shard is way cooler, it gives her a tiny little high ground she can stand on for extra range. high ground is really strong bc of vision and miss chance, but it's also really small so people can theoretically bait it and run away. but you're already playing a glass cannon so position is everything in the first place. just move to the right spots and win the game. and buy black king bar if you're up against too many stunners. that's not too hard, right?
she gets banned a ton at low levels, like most "simple" carries. the all hero tracker won't say this, but it took me three games because i couldn't even pick her the first two times i was going to. when i picked her the rest of my team took supporty heroes (including nyx lol) and i got counterpicked, so i feel like i actually had to earn this one a bit. not that i played badly the last few heroes, but i was way behind after laning and actually had to farm properly and engage in a few teamfights really smartly before i started being able to 1v1 people. because i and my team played well from behind we started to get an advantage and the guy who stomped me mid started saying "gg" every time he died. he still tried his best and i do give him props for outplaying me so hard at the start, but i wish he'd whined less. the first 20 minutes looked like a total stomp in his favor! so i feel good that my choices pulled it off despite that. (i do think the enemies got too used to running at us too, and kept doing it longer than they should have. but that's not really anyone's fault. it happens. it happened to my team one of the games i couldn't play drow!)
next up is clinkz, a much cheesier archer who is way squishier if you mess up. i'm a little afraid but i'll move forward with my head held high
