"A Game with a TV in it" is a puzzlebox exploration game that started as a college course assignment in 2016. I enjoyed the surreal lonely feeling of the default-ass-looking Unity environment that I made for this house in the middle of a black void. There were some crucial sprites, textures, 3D models, and audio help from April Jane and Bo Vogt on the project as well. It was one of the first 3D Unity games I worked on, so the harsh Unity lighting had a charm to it. I didn't know about lighting prioritization in Unity, so the lights scattered across the level would flicker on and off as you moved around and I kinda liked that as well. There were these characters in the house that would give you rather milquetoast critiques of problematic made-up films (which was part of the course assignment).
It was all rather surreal and I enjoyed slowly tinkering with the space over time, so I kept going with it. I've added lots of different voxel models, pixel sprites, and sounds all over this house. I've also done a bunch to drastically improve the lighting, controls, and game feel. Still a work in progress, but it's a game I'm excited to delve back into and complete one day.
