I'd like to use something like FLStudio but simple, aka "drag and drop blocks of samples in a grid where they just kinda align to the rhythm grid", but without 902345 options that I don't understand. (but some basic effects/fades/etc would be cool!)
Back when I was like 9 or something I used this software suite called Dance E-Jay (see image) which was pretty much exactly like that; simple to use (and with an incredible 2000s interface). It's outdated and I don't know if it's stable, though the sound effects I'm looking for are almost definitely in there.
Being able to use custom samples would also be nice, but it's not required. I'm already familiar with Reaper DAW, but that's really not very well-suited for making synthy songs.
Anyone know what I should use for this? Free is preferred, paid is fine, but in the latter case a demo version or trial would be nice to have.
