happy friday july 26th! here’s the financial update from june.

i’m sure you all have some questions.

Q. Why did this take so long?
A. honestly? thought I already did it. that’s on me.

financial update follows.

I only saw this update just now.
Pretty much the only commentary on the financials being "most of the good things are down. we don’t love that." and then a huge post on new features with no comments on financials whatsoever.

That does NOT have a good vibe. What are the foresights? Will y'all make it another month or two? And how the hell can you even forget you didn't already do a financial update? It's right there in the sidebar. Do they not have a schedule at all?

This is pretty much the exact opposite thing you want to do to maintain user trust. Feels like the site is falling over and they're trying to delay the inevitable as much as possible.

I wish they'd just be more transparent. There are so many completely valid questions from people in the comments, and the only folks getting answers are the ones asking about the new features. And this is not new; questions about the financial stability pretty much never get answered in my experience. Or they're answered in a place where only a select group of users gets to see them, instead of...globally.

Please be more transparent and address user concerns. Because honestly, I don't see cohost lasting very long if it keeps going like this.

hi folks! jae here, we know it's been a bit since the last financial update but there's been a lot going on behind the scenes that has made getting one out before now difficult. I don't want to get too deep into it, so I won't.

as a bonus, this month's update is a double feature. we'll be going into detail on some of our launch plans for tipping. there's going to be some limitations at launch while we work out some of the trickier bits and we want to make sure everyone's on the same page about what to expect.

but first: numbers! please refer to past financial updates for context on all terms.

i'm sorry but this is a battle you've lost before starting it. eggbux is what it will be

it is the cause of every single unpopular decision around tag search/visibility we have had to make, and the cause of all performance issues that stemmed from those decisions. i will not elaborate on this further. i hate the cohost global feed and spend much of my time considering ways to render it fully useless since the only way to truly kill it is through irrelevance.

EDIT: i'm elaborating a bit. the performance issues don't come from having a bunch of posts in the same tag (this costs us literally nothing), it comes from the arcane "effective search tags" system we had to create to cut down on the community/social issues that stemmed from people using the global feed to put posts in front of a much larger audience than was initially intended by OP, which was almost exclusively used for harassment. most of these perf issues have been resolved by now but it sucked to get here, and (at least imo) the global feed phenomenon has stunted the growth of a healthy tag culture.

9AM EDIT: i am locking comments on this post because it became mad unconstructive overnight. the correct read of "render it fully useless" is "make it so that it's not necessary", not "force everyone off of it."
