The Republicans don't have anything like the support they (or the Dems) claim. They would, in fact, be bowled the fuck over now without liberals constantly fighting for them. The presumption that they speak for "real America" or have some vast force behind them is their own mythmaking.
even now they can only be elected because of severe unchecked gerrymandering carving up voting blocs; you take that away, they're fucked
the way i see it is the republican party are saying they're gonna start a civil war in the eventuality that 1. they lose or 2. they win, so pre-empting them on that is probably fine
Also, they've said that they want another civil war for decades, at least. Letting them fester and become more violent won't magically make them more complacent.
And that's after mass voter suppression in other ways + Dems just not running against them in so many races. The Dems carry them.
