You know, I don't think it's fair to compare stories in videogames to movies or movies to books or books to TV or any iteration of comparing them because each medium is trying to convey a story in different ways.
And I feel that, especially with games, when they try to emulate the practices of other mediums it doesn't work. Look at Quantic Dream games for example, they suck for a variety of reasons, but they so desperately want to be scene as something that can be seen a film but it SUCKS.
there's been a lot of games that have tried so hard to imitate "prestige television" and even when I see the ones people say are good, they just never go over all the way for me.
the closest I've seen games come close to approaching bridging the gap between videogames and prestige television was The Last of Us. I was thinking, damn, they figured out the formula, a decently fun game with that story style and execution, that's pretty cool!
then they made a second one and I don't know how many remakes at this point and just a whole-ass actual prestige tv show and I fully lost interest in it
