in reply to @ChipCheezum's post:

in wisconsin, all summer, every day, we've had wildfire smoke in the air. over the last five years it's been something that happens a couple days a year to literally every day and now the variation is in whether the smoke affects air quality at the ground. it's such a depressing symbol.

It's not as bad here as it is in some places, but it's a really unfortunate fact that even if smaller countries invest in renewable energy it's not gonna do anything unless the big polluters (corporations and countries alike) also get in on the game. Sometimes it really feels like the only way to get anything significant done is to bring out the guillotines.

The part that really throws me off the edge is when record breaking snowfall and winter storms hit and those same people go "so much for global warming." Signifying that they have never looked into how global warming makes weather worse for all seasons or they are being intentionally misleading for capitalism reasons.

Never underestimate how goddamn ignorant people are. If it's not literally in front of their nose in flashing neon lights, they don't have a clue, and they probably still won't read it.

I saw this especially working retail in covid. People didn't personally know someone who had died, their distant cousin caught it and was Fine, so the problem didn't exist and everyone was just overreacting and you're being ridiculous for wearing a mask, "I was a nurse 20 years ago so I Am An Expert On The Current Situation".

They heard "weather get hot" so if weather not hot, global warming fake. Obviously. No research needed, people are just overreacting. Their observations can't be wrong so the scientists are lying.

I used to call myself a misanthrope as a teenager but now I can say it firmly and with proof: People are fucking morons.

Every day, to varying degrees. It's causing me to develop some degree of 'climate FOMO', where I'm saving less and traveling/going outside a lot more now... because who knows what things are going to look like 10, 20, 30+ years from now.

Yyyyyep. At this point I think what we need is to completely rebuild our governments and economic systems from scratch in order to incentivize helping each other and fixing and maintaining the environment, which, like... That's a tall order.

That was yesterday for me as well =/. You are a dope human though, and give so many people joy! You've helped shape an awesome community in the gamerverse, and so I'm sending you some love. Being human is scary, and uniquely scary in 2023, but you've inspired lots of individuals, and so let's all FF7 the shit outta this world! Kill some gods, n intimidate some middle managers n shit ^-^
