As I promised earlier, here's the video I filmed of the JD-990 unboxing. I still can't believe someone would package something so carelessly. Even more so considering these are rare and hard to come by, and not to mention, super expensive! That being said, I'm really looking forward to incorporating this absolute beaut into my setup / music!!! πŸ˜€

I've made a couple YT Shorts talking about why it's just better to buy a vintage turntable as opposed to modern ones. The big thing being you can end up spending far less money for what is overall better build quality, specs, and more features. They pull good numbers, but I keep getting these snarky comments all coming from this place of implying I'm just some fucking hipster or audiophile or something. They go like, "if you think this is crazy, wait until you find out about CDs" or, "just use a CD player!". Something along those lines.

What makes me chuckle is that for me, I don't dip into the audiophile stuff as much for my hi-fi setup and listening. For me, I LOVE music and I appreciate hearing it in different ways. For me, it's a bit of fun tied in with history that also happens to sound really good. It's an experience you just can't get sitting at your computer. I also use this gear in my music making (sample hunting, bouncing things to and from tape, etc).

Where I'm getting at with all this is that we've become so spoiled with access to music that everyone makes this assumption that whatever music you want to listen to you can just "listen to it on Spotify" (........BARFS) or maybe somehow acquire it via streaming / digital download. While that's true for a lot of music and anything made today, what people don't realize is that for a lot of old music it's only available that one time it was put out. The world of old school vinyl records is so full of so many one-off vanity projects, breakout music career albums, and overall just ridiculous other things that are lucky to have gotten made in the first place that they never survived to see a release on cassette let alone CD. I'd be willing to bet there's some similar things on cassette as well. Hell I know I already own a few things like that.

I guess what I'm getting at is don't be so eager to be an asshole to what is effectively a complete stranger on the internet just because you think you have all the information (especially when you're blatantly ignorant about the topic). So many times we lack some vital pieces of information or experience that heavily change the situation and our perception of that situation. In that moment, we become the jerk instead of just having a laugh at one.
