It takes an ingeniously clever like plot—a colonist on a pacific island so racist that he misses the fact he’s all but volunteered himself to be sacrificed to an alien god—but can’t stop reminding you at ever turn how much Jack London hates the colonized people. A real “the past is unimaginable from the present” experience to read it
