Does anyone else find it difficult to call people by their names?
Like I don't even mean nicknames but I find it very uncomfortable to call people by their names for some reason especially when I've only met them recently
Is this like a normal social thing that nobody ever talks about or an autism thing or an "I'm weird" thing

i'm autistic and it takes me several months of knowing someone to get comfortable using their name (and properly remembering it). funnily enough if this is online and their name is in their username in some way then remembering it and using becomes incredibly easy
Yeah, tho I don't really have trouble remembering the name as much as trying to figure out when and where it's appropriate to use someone's name in a conversation, it's so awkward lol but I am the same where I don't really have that problem online
Using someone's name sometimes reminds me of how a teacher or parent uses names. As like, an awkard way to spotlight them as a person as perceived in the third person instead of more familiarly. You almost expect a name to be followed up by a reprimand or something manipulative.
I think you're right it's like the formality of it, for me I don't see it so much as scolding but I do feel it being impersonal and kinda othering as if your talking about them instead of to them
i almost never call ppl their names bc ive always had a hard time remembering lmao. the main instance id refer to someone by name is when referring to them in passing but otherwise i use nicknames/titles
Titles? Like Doctor or smth? Things like Professor, Doctor, or sir/ma'am are usually less awkward for me too
yeah either those or casual terms like bro/dude/sis. it helps that i have heavy surfer accent lmao
