There's something of a strain of thought that goes "never mention the transition, pretend things were always like this, that's how you show respect." It wasn't uncommon to, say, announce a daughter's death and the arrival of a cousin to take over for them at the farm ("they do look a bit alike, don't they? they have the family nose").
But it doesn't feel like that's what's happening here.
