lmao haven't done this in almost a year, which i feel like is a normal amount of time for my projects at this point (gestures to lightbulb collage from last year, a painting of Tahoma, like three unfinished zines,)
anyways.

food/drinks

i have become so cafe allegro-pilled lately. been around since long before i was born but somehow i never bothered to go there until this year. amazing delicious coffee and great place to sit and write. i haven't done a lot of cooking this year as i've been caring for my mom after she got in a car accident this spring. got around to going to ludi's for the first time earlier this year and their longsilog is sooo good. i wish i could have filipino breakfast every day!! idk what else to recommend besdies more coffee places
a photo of longsilog, filipino garlic fried rice topped green onion, sausage, and two fried eggs

music

trying to figure out how to embed my last.fm into my profile sidebar thing but haven't figured it out yet. only dates from september last year so it's not 100% accurate.

was lucky to see the saetia reunion tour in july and cried half the set. was super amazing to see them live.

locally: go see gun shy for awesome violent borderline-mathy seattle metalcore, tolls (okay technically theyre pdx but whatever) (melodic) hc, love every time i see them. Tolls Tuesday. ,plagued by god mosh part!!! seattle metalcore , and the names of our friends (pdx again) for AMAZING transfem screamo. so many good bands out of the nw rn and if you arent listening to them youre missing out!

streaming this month-ish:
-challengers score by trent reznor and atticus ross. amazing movie also, answers the question "what if tennis was yaoi?". its very nine inch nails electronica(?) i'll probably figure out a better genre label for this in the morning.
-lots of the wrens (band). 90s-early 00s emoish indie from new jersey. loved them for a while now.
-lazarus plot + self titled album - shortlived spoken word/screamo band from illinois. ffo saetia
-pinback (band), fav of the past couple years, more 90s-00s indie + altpop . early stuff gets a little experimental with samples of john carpenter's dark star
-if youre into it i'm out of it, christophe de babalon, 1997 digital hardcore/ambient/dnb fusion. recent discovery via fucking around on youtube
-lots of others, i'll probably add a couple more bands/albums ive listened to this summer later.

reads:

i read you glow in the dark (liliana colanzi, 2022, translated by chris andrews 2024) spring early summer this year and have been gripped by it since. i need to reread it soon. it's a cyberpunky, almost body-horror anthology of seven stories set in the same universe across different times on the bolivian altiplano, touching on queer themes and nuclear industry. if you want a speculative fiction book you need to mull over in your head a while after reading, READ THIS!!!

currently working through spiderland (scott tennent, 2010, in the 33 1/3 series) covers the entire history of slint from the members previous bands to the breakup and aftermath. amazing book and amazing gift from @highwaygothic <3

any mistakes/broken links are my own, feel free to comment/ask for a fix!

hello! i wanted to start doing a monthly roundup via "newsletter" of stuff i liked. figured i would start with november bc it's the first month in a few where i've thought about it on time(ish) to have it out by the start of the next month. okay that's a lie pretend it didnt take me almost the whole month to get this out but it still counts!

food/drinks

i visited my friends in massachusetts the first week of november for my birthday and it was so fun! the bagels on the east coast body seattle's so hard like sorry idgaf what are we DOING out here. didn't get a chance to eat a ton of new foods but i found a good biang biang noodle place near where i stayed in amherst. back home: i still love the ube coffee at hood famous enough to drink an iced latte in 40f weather. umm what else. i don't eat in restaurants anymore due to covid so a lot of what i get is stuff like teriyaki or noodles that work well for takeout. maybe i should share one of my recipes?

music

non local: listen to anything by Ephyra Records if you like hardcore/metalcore/emo/etc. every release is amazing and i'm proud to be friends with some of the folks there. 413 forever.

locally: Spurr as usual puts on an amazing show and if you like any sort of hardcore check one of their shows out. they don't have music out on streaming yet but are allegedly fixing that soon. here's one of their performances from october by local videographer vanguardist media. youtube
Puritan is a new, also hardcore, band by Matt from Spurr/Vast Chains, Rowan of ... i don't recall her other bands 😭, Bodhi of barbarian booking/Spawn, and Bird of Guilt/Killcam/etc.
extreme metal inspired riffs and bar chords. here's their rehearsal demo:

streaming: listened to a lot of Deli Girls (industrial synth punk), Black Eyes (art punk, queercore type stuff), **Poison The Well (00s hardcore/metalcore), Antioch Arrow (kind of art punk/sasscore? dont know what to call it but its good), Indian Summer (80s early emo) this month.

also, if you're in the seattle area, check out the reopened Black Lodge, now run by the Vera Project. lots of cool music happening there.

reads

tw in this article for discussion of gun violence, school shootings, racism, misogyny, antisemitism- technically i read this last november, but i had to find it and reread it while i was talking with some friends about good literature. When Reason Fails (october 18 2022, by sam kriss in point magazine) is a fascinating look at mass shooters and the literature both by and about them. absolutely gripping.

Days at the Morisaki Bookshop (Satoshi Yagisawa 2010, translated by Eric Ozawa 2023)- i read this a few months ago at elliott bay books, and i had to go back and get it finally! a sweet slice-of-life type story about a woman, takako, in tokyo coping with a startling breakup and moving to stay with her uncle satoru, who runs a bookstore in the jimbocho district. i felt like i was there with takako as she flipped through each page and chatted with her new friends. only 147 pages, so if you want a short read about relationships and books in modern japan, check it out.

alright that's it for now, i will see u again soon!! any mistakes are my own.
