It's been a bit of a journey, from time to time over the past few years I like to browse around the secondhand market for 3DSs.
I have a New 2DS, but it feels cheap and I kinda miss the 3DS feature my old 3DS had, plus my ex spilled soda on it so the buttons are fucked! xP
I've always loved the look of the New 3DS, not specifically the XL one but the smaller variant that Europe and Japan got but I don't believe we got in the US. The swappable face plates are such a cute idea and there are some really sick looking plates out there!
I didn't expect to find much on eBay but after some browsing I stumbled across this beauty for an absolute steal but it seemed legit. Even with shipping from Japan, it ended up being less than $150! The only defect listed was that the top screen was a bit yellow, which I can live with, especially since the shell it came with is cool and not... Toad...
Yesterday it arrived without any problems (sorta, read on) and I was excited to set up some CFW to change the region of it, but ran into some snags TwT
I was struggling to get the SD card to be recognized, it knew when I took it out but no data was actually getting transferred. I tried like 4 different cards ranging from 64gb to a measly 4 and NOTHING. I kept formatting the SD cards hoping it would fix it, tried different format types, nothing seemed to work. After a lot of whining I finally decided to just open up the DS and try and figure it out, there a separate part of the inner shell that can be removed to only reveal the microSD card slot, and as it turned out...
THE RIBBON CABLE WASNT EVEN PLUGGED IN
Im guessing it probably got messed up in shipping? Whatever it ended up being, the high I got from fixing that is the reason I like tinkering with things.
Anyways the rest was easy, they have actually hella streamlined the process of modding your 3ds within the last month where once you get CFW on it, a gm9 script does everything else!
Switching the region to U wasnt too difficult either, so its pretty much all set up now! :D
So anyways my review of the New 3DS?
Pretty good so far! Out of all of the 3DS variations this feels the most high quality to hold, and the materials are a very good texture. I like the location of all of the buttons/ports (minus the volume slider for some reason it just feels wrong), having the 3D again feels cool especially with the face tracking, the white interior with colored buttons also goes crazy. I dont miss the larger screen as much as I thought I would even putting it side to side with my New 2DS, but we'll see.
Overall its the same 3DS experience but in a better feeling form!
The main thing i trying to do now is get my Streetpass Mii Plaza progress over from the 2DS but so far its been kinda a process xP
Also side note I though it was really funny that Scott The Woz put out a stash video about the New 3DS yesterday also I havent watched it yet but kinda wacky
