This was a nice little surprise. Lots of fun variety, interesting fights that play out across multiple spaces at once, and it's not afraid to pull any punches on Normal, either. The map name is 'mtsch001', and if this is really the author's first map, it's very impressive.

It's also very... odd. I found it nigh-impossible to build a mental map of the place, possibly due to the chaotic, generally unfocused visual style. Everything simultaneously looks different and the same—as insane as that may sound—and it doesn't feel like there's much rhyme or reason to why anything connects to anything else. In that respect, I suppose it's closer to the spirit of Quake's abstract murder labyrinths than many more 'grounded' modern maps.

Visuals aside, the author's style is very distinctive, and weirdly compelling. Every encounter feels thoughtfully composed, but not overly worried about micro-managing the player. There's a lot of delayed Vores and Fiends that turn manageable fights into much scarier propositions, and Shamblers are nearly always deployed to great "oh shit" effect. There are a few points where the map lightly flirts with a gimmick or two and then promptly discards them before it can really stretch them, which is a bit of a letdown, but hey maybe not everything needs to follow a 'introduce, teach, test' framework.

Most importantly, though: finding enough secret backpacks grants you access to the Cat Room. So it's basically perfect.
