Every time I play Disco Elysium I'm struck by how easily I sink back into it, when I should (if other games in its vein are any indication) bounce off the paragraphs upon paragraphs of incredibly rich, ancillary text. On paper, it sounds like the kind of game I'd have to work hard to 'get into'—a game I'd play out of a sense of cultural obligation, hoping that at some point down the line it finally clicks—but I think the leisurely pace of investigation suits the overwhelmingly dense writing. I chip off tiny morsels at a time, gnawing on each new dialogue option, digesting it with aimless walks around the city. A slab of delicious granite.
