huh at least according to wikipedia, old-timey outhouses with a moon cutout in the door were for girls, and there were also ones with a sunburst cutout for boys. this raises some questions about shrek

we distinctly remember reading a Snopes article about moons in outhouse doors thirty years ago which basically said: yeah people carved ventilation holes in there sometimes but there was no rhyme or reason to it, the moon thing just got popularized by Hollywood
... ah, and it looks like Wikipedia does make note of the controversy
