@trickybee

so with a few more movies under our belt i think this is where i'm at?

Crash (1996) β‰₯ eXistenZ β‰₯ Scanners β‰₯ the Fly > Videodrome > Dead Ringers

with the caveat that like i loved Dead Ringers, Jeremy Irons was fucking incredible, i just like the others more, i am the pervert who wants more Gynecological Tools For Mutant Women

i was really surprised by Crash (1996) like it had been hyped up for me as this big queer movie and like, it was even queerer than i imagined but more importantly it was much more tender than i was expecting from a movie about car crash fetishists? the film never like disparaged the characters' deviant sexualities the way a more cowardly movie would have and i love it for that

and i fucking loooooved eXistenZ, like. i feel like i picked up everything it was putting it down, i saw through the premise like immediately but in a way that was very rewarding, like appreciating the set design in a play, delighting in the artifice. i probably wouldn't have liked it if i was less familiar with Cronenberg's work but i vibed w it
