Even got a tripath tangent, a very blessed day.
I've already forgotten the name but the car audio episode I am VERY looking forward to.
I had actually just learned about the airport express' audio capabilities a week or two ago. Had anything else better come out by that point? It seems like that is almost the ideal solution of the era, though I guess you'd have to bring your ibook around to control it instead of a remote.
the Empeg Car ep is gonna be a rollercoaster if i have my druthers
to the best of my knowledge the airport express was unique for at least a decade after it came out, and arguably still is in some ways
re the tripath - were you familiar with them already? curious what your takes are
The tripath I had read about in passing while absorbing a lot of car stereo information, ironically. I forget why I had come across it, but it was just a "oh, that's pretty neat" thing and not a lot more than that to me. I've no use for it unfortunately. Come to think of it, I probably found it while trying to learn what the differences between the amplifier classes were. "What is a class T?" basically.
But it is neat, and seeing it pop up here was very neat.
I wanna say I looked a few weeks ago and didn't see any good videos on the airport express? It doesn't seem like something you'd do as there's not a large volume (heh) of interesting stuff there, it's just a neat thing that does a few very simple, normal things and that's about it. But I was pretty surprised that no one had made a 5-10 minute video demonstration and say "wow they did this in 2004!"
I'll be putting bets on the music keg showing up during the empeg car video for some ez cash
You mentioned a ground plane for cooling that Tripath amp chip. Almost the entire back of that vertical board is one copper plane, I'm guessing there's a bunch of vias from the bottom of the chip leading to that plane on the opposite side. More vias is more surface area, you know the deal.
Also, I think Rio purposefully didn't put much work into the music management UI of the Receiver Manager because they wouldn't be able to match dedicated software like MusicMatch Jukebox. They put in just enough to get you going, and then put in a little hint that you're using a Receiver Manager, not a Jukebox program. I like it, I can see why you wouldn't.
wow I remember so many of those projects
they were what people hacking other mp3 players at the time looked up to
Won't get a chance to watch this whole thing til the weekend, and I really look forward to your review and explanations, but, BUT, where were you 22 years ago to personally inform me via aol instant messenger or perhaps livejournal that this existed? lmbo
My old man still worked for dell around the time this came out, and I wish he would have known about it instead of being suckered into the weird Arrakis Systems Cool Guy Home Theater MP3 player that never really worked that he got alongside the kentucky nightmare Kenwood 400 disc DVD carousel.
