i love thinking about modern gamers' attitude about """cut content""" while i'm working. i have to totally redo this room cause it just Isn't Working Out, but i've got the old one saved in case i can't come up with anything better.

if anyone ever datamines this game or whatever and finds it, they're going to see this garbage trashroom that isn't any good and call it Cut Content and say i'm a lazy dev for not including it or the game is Clearly Unfinished and that's sincerely so funny to me

for sure, another good way to tell when the shift happened is in the way speedrun communities discuss the exploits and stuff they find. i'm so curious about the why though, i can't think of any reason this attitude came about when it did? might just be one of those things that happens just because?

Maybe part of it is just immaturity and ignorant assumptions by younger people who don't try to understand anything about development or production under capitalism? I also look at the youtuber Crowbcat, who's popular with such Gamers, and how it's just some guy inventing narratives for clout and feigning impartially by never directly speaking. Some people have come to see the dehumanizing face of a corporation as an opportunity to give themselves and others easy answers to frustration.

It also doesn't help when some of the frustrations are so shallow and artificial. I think Steph said this on the Jimquisition, but the big companies are partially to blame for gamers obsessing over stupid metrics of graphical fidelity and "attention to detail" when those companies have been pushing it as a main selling point for years. For games and consoles.
