tl;dr if you judge a console irrespective of it's game library you basically just look at how easy or hard it makes playing games on it. There's a lot of aspects to this.

"Why don't you like the ps2 slim even more then?" It DOES have an internal PSU but it was more expensive at launch and also every PS2 I touch kills a laser.

If you put any more friction between me and my games than is absolutely necessary then you're probably a bad company.

In the weirdest way I would say the XSX is finally turning the tide for this aspect for me in a way that I don't think a console has since my modded Wii

that NVMe quick resume feature fucking slaps

I think my original post idea had something about "this is only for TV consoles because the DS is easily the best console made in every regard" and one of the things I LOVE about the DS is you can just... shut it. Game immediately pauses exactly where it is, no exceptions. NVMe quick resume is nice and all but I'd love to make the case that if we didn't try and shove hundreds of watts of computing power in a box just to play a dang game, features like that would be way more common!

Sorry this is a topic I get on whinges VERY easily with.

nah i mean you're not wrong

a modded ds/3ds (or hell, just a flash card) is an incredible device. actual cartridges were incredible. it sucks to me that just Straight Up Emulating every console between 2000 and 2015 is the best experience because disks got slow, ram too small, and hdd too slow

a related note is that if every fucking console hadn't tried to rush resolution up as fast as they did for the last 20 years i think games would just straight up be better and we wouldn't have nearly as much industry wide burnout :|

:yeah: on the DS stuff and a big :yeah: on the graphics and, primarily resolution chase being the source of so many problems.

Perhaps not the solution but dang you sure can fix a lot by forcing it low!

it's so infuriating seeing it playing out again on the series S with all the damn 4k textures getting reused from the X! that machine should be perfectly capable at 1080p but apparently they target 1440p :| and it's so small and power efficient that i do wish i had been able to reasonably go for one
