Recipe is here from Preppy Kitchen.
I've actually never had Hershey's in my entire life until today, mostly because I was told that American chocolate tastes like vomit. Since this is Hershey's imported to New Zealand, it uses a different recipe so there wasn't any of that 'bad' flavour.
One of the top comments on the YouTube video gave an extremely helpful tip: After you first press down your Hershey's kisses, wait about 20 seconds for the chocolate to melt from the heat of the cookie, then twist them a little bit until a slight chocolate 'wall' forms around it. That way, the Hershey's kisses have more grip inside the cookie and won't fall off when you bite into it.
The process is this:
- Take out piping hot baking tray
- Push in all your Hershey's kisses
- By the time you finish the last one, go back to the first one and twist them left and right a bit (don't twist them in a circle, my partner did that and it didn't work as well) in the same order you pushed them in
Yeah, you actually have to manually unwrap every kiss while the cookies are baking. Here's my partner helping me out.
Taste-wise, I found Hershey's kisses way too sweet. This is a personal issue though, since I gave these cookies away and turns out I was the only one with that problem; everyone else felt they worked perfectly.
In the last batch I ran out of Hershey's kisses (which is fine) and tried baking it on convection for a crispier feel. It's not as pretty, but my friends enjoyed it a lot! Half the people felt the original was a bit too underbaked, even though that's the intention, so they liked this version better.
