In school, there was a kid in my class one year who had the same first name as me. Somehow, it was determined that they would be the "original" [my name], while I would get second place. I handed in a lot of work and labelled my belongings with "[my name] 2". I still occasionally label my stuff with that, just to pre-empt possible confusion from there being anybody else with my name.

This isn't directly where me calling myself two on here comes from, there's a different route to that, but it might have been the start of an appreciation for the number itself.

I always get suuuper judgy when I meet another seth; are they living up to the name? Are they doing good at this name they were bequeathed at birth and been forced to grow into? Or did they choose this name and are now failing it?

I thought this was weird, and then the seth I know who is The Truest Seth I Know mentioned doing the same in an offhand way and I was like, !!!!!!

oh god. this happened to me, except i was the "original" and they were number two. we were in the same class the next year, and that year they just added our initials, but now i'm suddenly feeling guilty for being the "original." i am sorry for what you had to go through

ah, don't worry about it, i don't think it was that big of a deal. It might have actually been me who had the idea to become the second, I can't remember it very well.

I love it when a social circle gets two people with the same name. You get to assign them descriptors, and if you're very lucky, the descriptor will be so self-evident that they never need to be explained.

On that note we had a Good Alex and Evil Alex on my team for several years.
