two

actually the number two IRL

Thanks for playing, everyone. I'll see you around.

(A small warning: upon solving any puzzle, it flashes twice quickly. But not that quickly, so it's probably no big deal.)

Realising that my Brand on here is becoming me finding computer stuff from elsewhere and sharing it. Anyway! I found this collection of puzzle game implementations that is available on a good number of platforms (hence portable). I think it's pretty cool! Unlike the last time I have not attempted to complete every puzzle once in alphabetical order. That would be silly. A few of these I do have specific notes on though, so:

  • Mines
This is a pretty nice implementation of minesweeper! It has that thing that very few implementations include where you can set it to only generate games that can be solved without guessing. Turning the number of mines way up with this option on leads to some pretty interesting puzzles. It also lets you click on a number to clear all surrounding squares, which so far as I remember from other minesweepers usually requires another button. Though it marking clues in red when you've placed too many flags does take some of the risk out of it.
  • Flip
This is Lights Out, though in this case I guess it's more like "Lights On". If you want to play around with different sizes of Lights Out, here's a good way to do it. Also includes a really cruel variant where the patterns that the lights switch in is randomised. I have no idea what the strategy for that is supposed to be.
  • Unruly and Range
To me, these games are (respectively) an easier version of 0h h1 and a harder version of 0h n0. I can't work out Range, but I like Unruly - compared to 0h h1 there's more logic and a lot less hunting for the next trivial move.
  • Untangle
Not really a difficult sort of puzzle in any sense, but very satisfying to me. Somehow I feel like this is exactly what I've wanted to be able to do for a long time, even if I've never thought about it consciously before.
