What does it mean if you're "mutuals" with someone on this sort of social media? I understand that by definition it means you are both (mutually) following eachother, I think, but I often see it used in a way that implies something closer to "friends". Is it just that being mutually aware of one another's Posts automatically makes you sort of friendly acquaintances, or is there some unwritten qualifier on uses of "mutual" that means you can technically be someone's mutual but not necessarily a mutual mutual? Mutually mutual? this is confusing

at this point, given there’s no DM capability and so far the userbase has been almost exclusively affable queer-leaning nerds, i’ve just been treating it like a party held by a friend of a friend and following someone just implies you’re listening to them a little closer. probably will have to adjust that to be a little less presumptuous re: commenting on the posts of people who don’t follow me if it starts getting hectic though
