horrifying nakedness felt on my left wrist realizing it's been years since ive had a Casio F91W on it. since those stupid things are unbreakable i just never took it off uhh, ever. for years. just showered and slept with it on until the strap broke. went without up until a hurricane came and knocked out our power so i bought another one to have an alarm and went more years just, having it on my wrist until of course the strap broke. no moral.

idly browsing around for watches and of course amazon tells me that last time i ordered a F91W (2021) which is also when i ordered my new balances that remain my only pair of shoes that of course are severely fucking worn. this also means i had my story twisted around and the first time i purchased it was post hurricane blackout and then i went online for my second one. also just looking at all the other alternatives in the price range of (very cheap) and they're all too fucking big. there's too much shit on watches, make em less like that imo.

anyway, posting this here again because it's the platonic ideal of a product shot for a dirt cheap rock steady watch that had (still has?) a terrorist scare image baked into it thanks to the insane mind melting amount of power and influence the war on terror was allowed to run rampant with.

my birthday is on friday and this post inspired me to get one, thank you. i have it's fancier cousin the A158W but it's just slightly too nice for me lol. i need a watch i dont feel bad knocking around. plus i can't find my Databank RIP

my buddy who's big into collecting watches called it the "unibomber special" due to it's notoriety and that made me love em even more.
my favorite part is they are small enough to wear military style on the inner wrist without issue so i could just look down at it while carrying stuff. but yeah they're great, the battery and the watch itself lasts a lifetime but the rubber strap will always be the failure point. i know folks make their own paracord replacement straps for em and w/e but i just never bothered.
all the same welcome to the fold, when you wear it you'll see what everyone who has ever owned a F91W was saying when they say "it's a watch"

On the flip side I'm so invested in them that I'm always baffled for a minute when people haven't heard of them and then i realize that i haven't listened to an fm radio station in earnest for probably fifteen years at least so i have no idea what anyone's tastes are that aren't mine

I have been thinking about getting just a simple watch like this, ideally something with an electroluminescent backlight but that's for another day. Anyways i digress, i am curious if you feel the build quality has gone down over the years or is the F91W still as good as ever in your opinion? I just know there are always knockoffs of the fancier or metal ones and i would rather not take the risk.

Your post got me looking into what is available near me, and honestly without knowing much about watches the F91w you mentioned seems like a good punt. cheap and long-lasting while most importantly, it tells the time

the F91W is as good as it ever was i would say, which is to say near indestructible. washed countless dishes at home and in back of house kitchen jobs with it on, just showered with it on, pretty much never took it off for years. suffered many knock tests while slinging totes on truck nights and during heavy stocking in retail environments too.

like mentioned before and what everyone else will tell you, the strap will break before the watch, hell before the battery even. 2-4 years based on how mean you are to it, but also replacements are plenty easy to source. my only gripe is that in the not too distant past i found my F91Ws sitting in walmart for ten bucks and now everywhere they're 16 for no added benefit. c'est la vie and all that.

but yeah they're dirt cheap, it tells time and date, has a stopwatch, and has an alarm. it's small and light enough that you'll hardly notice you're wearing it. those things kick ass.
