We have only watched the anime. The manga goes into the same stories as the anime, but there are much more chapters to the manga than the anime.
We love Mushishi. It's one of our favourite anime of all time. It's. It's simply world-building. Ginko, the MC, is cool, level-headed, and kind. He only ever wishes to help and understand the world. But he is mostly a framing device through which we get to explore the world of mushi.
Mushishi is a story about another world, very similar to ours, where mushi are everywhere and play an essential role in their ecosystems, but are mostly invisible to everyone. And throughout, we get to learn about various mushi, how they affect their environment, how they often cause trouble for humans, but it is humans who tend to get in the way of the mushi lifecycle. How humans and mushi can cooperate and live together.
It's a chill anime. It's relaxing. It's hopeful. It's a window into another world, and you are meant to just enjoy the sights, admire them, and relax.
i'll check em out, thanks for this write up, the series obviously means a lot to yall.
the anime is fantastic, usually super relaxing and cozy in a "i could fall asleep to this" way (but in a good way). the manga is probably great too but i haven't read it.
