i watched the folding ideas video 'I Don't Know James Rolfe' twice now because the first go around i felt like it was a well produced film that was using a real living breathing person as the scaffolding to hang a bunch of self indulgent horseshit on and now the second go around i've come to the conclusion that Dan Olson is just a fucking asshole.

Most of the time, Dan can hide his ass, but deep down he is the kinda guy whose online origin story was on SomethingAwful, and from time to time it shows through. That said somebody oughtta port his ripline thread from twitter onto here so I can read it from time to time.
alright so that's where i remember this dickhead from, vague recollections of him in fact Getting Some Shit Wrong in said Ripline thread and Eliza Gauger also of SA fame promptly tearing it apart. maybe it was he took a crack at groverhaus and fucked that up, i can't remember and of course like tears in rain in finding these things.
Aye, the whole vid was just the ripline again. I feel I perfectly understand the mindset of the camera stand: something you panic-solve in one minute with the materials available in the room at the moment that somehow works well enough to not need a permanent fix later. That lack of awareness on Dan's part felt intentional, but also if he's having a Kevin Purjurer-like crisis of faith over being a youtuber and not a filmmaker, I feel I pretty well understand that, too. At this point I believe that film studies as a discipline just gives you brain worms.
