just a little treat and hidden easter egg some people might remember from when they played myst (1994)

remember how there's three islands but four directions you can rotate the fortress toward?

Screenshot of Myst, mechanical age journal depicting the islands/rotation surrounding the fortress. Screenshot of Myst, the controls for the fortress rotation.

a purely utilitarian player might realize that there's nothing there and skip it entirely! ...but maybe you'll remember there's that telescope that shows absolutely nothing when you're connected to the other three islands...

Screenshot of Myst, Sirris's
bedroom.

Same as above, but you're further in. Same as above, turned 90 degrees to the left, with a good view of the telescope. View through a telescope, showing a ship's mast and yard, with a skeleton in the upper left, two skeletons in the upper right, two skeletons in the lower right, and a skeleton next to a skeleton rotated 90 degrees.

and at that point you realize "wow, shit. achenar wasn't fucking around with those black ship pirates."

the skies are also a brilliant, clear, tranquil blue, way different than the way atrus described the age's gray, turbulent skies in the library's surviving journal. if you remember what the old man said, the storms would never end until the enemy suffered a great loss.

really cool bit of loose-end-tying there!

in reply to @bobskunk's post:

I like that the black ship symbol shows up on the cloth samples in Sirris's Stoneship bedroom, for example

way to go not picking up on literally any of that ever until it's already too late, atrus
