Been doing resolutions pretty regularly since like 2017. Skipped making ones last year though, I think in part because I'd achieved some big-ticket milestones that had been plaguing me for years, and was down now to stuff that was either small, or basically locked in. But now that it's a new year again, I'm missing having bulleted points to reflect on, and posts from last year to read back.
Anyway how did last year go?
I think last year was pretty good? Got engaged, got a raise at work, made some lifestyle adjustments that were great for my mental health, had some very negative family stuff happen, but that wasn't really something within my control. It was kind of a bad year for reading and hobbies, but a good one for social activity, and I'm wanting to follow up on that next year. I also very very badly need a vacation, but the reason one didn't happen this year was we're saving all our PTO for some big-time traveling for the honeymoon next year, so that'll be something to check back in with for 2025.
What do you want different or improved for next year?
- An easy one: Get Married, and be sure to have a great time during honeymoon travel
- Daily practice-style one(s): More discipline about routines & chores. Don't go to bed with dishes in the sink; hang up yr clothes & coats instead of tossing them on the floor and couch; become a making the bed in the morning guy if you think it'll help. Stay on top of your money accounts, monthly spending, budgeting etc. Make a practice of diligence and reliability.
- Long-term "I don't know what the steps to achieve this even begin to look like" one: Take more initiative both task-wise, and socially. Make plans, reach out more. It's a quality I admire in friendships I have with people, and I'm tired of always feeling like I'm dropping the ball on reciprocation.
- Obligatory "you are in your 30s now, bud" exercise one: Running was easier to keep up with when I had it in my head that I wanted to run a 5k. Get back on that goal.
- One that seems contradictory to some of my other values: ...post more, document more. Instagram's bad on a few levels, but I barely took pictures and didn't do very much checking in with myself during 2023. The Posts are helpful for this, and The Record of The Posts is something I like having around
