replayed because I wanted to compare bg3 to a predecessor, and i’d never actually made my way to the restored content mod

Vindication:
The big big big annoyances of BG3 for me were inventory and party management, and with how frictionless both of those are in kotor, I feel vindicated in my venom toward larian about these. Even if it’s not in the spirit of D&D or whatever, it’s much better in a video game based around looting (especially as a single-player experience) for the items to all just go to a shared infinite pool instead of having to constantly swap around 6+ different characters’ backpacks, only 4 of which can be accessible at a time, and then have to fuck around with load limits on top of that.

How’s the rest of that 20-year-old game hold up though
So admittedly kotor's combat systems aren’t very strategic or sophisticated. you reach a certain point in the build and you can just mindlessly mow people down and it gets really tedious.

Game traversal’s also interesting to revisit; despite the maps being much smaller than I remembered, it’s still very boring to walk within and between zones. I found BG3 traversal tedious too, but for the opposite reason: keeping the party companions at pace with the main PC got frustrating, especially given how clunky jumping is and how frequently it comes up. kotor ii at least has the decency to teleport them to you if something goes really wrong (even divinity ii had items in it that smoothed this issue out).

content restored any good?
kinda. some cutscenes got more fleshed out, which made a surprising amount of difference, but the droid factory was a complete dud, and the final section, while made a little bit less confusing by the additions, is still very fever dreamy, without quite enough there
