so the track "Cool About It", off the new boygenius album, is a country song, but specifically it's a lesbian country song, and i can say that because it has fingerpicked guitar but also it has that woodwind section that comes in partway through, long sustained chords with dissonant suspensions on clarinets? and that's a timbre combo that I've heard on multiple lesbian country albums - McKain Lakey in particular does it All The Time, and it shows up on Abby Posner records too - but I have never heard this instrumentation from a straight country artist, and i'm deeply curious if it's going to jump across to the mainstream now that boygenius has done it
