no idea how true it is, but the received wisdom I've heard is that for grant applications and the like it's good to put things in definitive terms, so rather than like "I try to keep a strong figurative focus" just "I keep a strong figurative focus"?

it may also help to have a clearer statement of what you're working towards if that makes sense. like, you have the line about capturing and filtering the noise of experience... it might be good to talk about what you hope to find as you do that filtering through your process.

I'm no grant expert though lol so definitely take or leave any of this advice. I think it's a cool statement that captures how your work feels.

It's hard to write about art! Especially about your own art! This does seem like a really solid artist statement. Agree with above about removing words like "try to." Similarly, unless the scale is important, Id consider taking out calling the paintings and animations "small." Otherwise, if the scale is relevant to its intention, it could also be good to explain that.
