Um, ma’am, why are you up here by the house? The creek is 20 yards down that hill to your left! I really hope you aren’t up here burying eggs in our yard, cause that is what it seems like you are doing the longer I watch you wiggle forwards and back in this little hole that wasn’t there yesterday… what if the yard maintenance crew steps there, ma’am??
Edit: I have learned she is a red-eared slider, aka a red-eared terrapin. Figured I’d put that here too. She was definitely laying eggs, we watched her bury the hole back up and crawl away down the hill towards the creek about an hour after I took this photo.
Wow, like. You can really tell she’s laying eggs, she looks like any animal struggling to poop, and also like she’s maybe stuck in the little hole. But I know it’s cause she’s using her back feet to move the eggs and dig more space, not actually her trying to get out and walk away.
